Luno Preflight Checks and Crypto Transaction Confirmation

Luno transactions move through different commitment points depending on whether you buy inside the platform or send crypto to another wallet. A buy is complete when the quote is accepted and the wallet record updates. An external send needs matching asset, network, and destination details, followed by a transaction record that can be checked on the relevant blockchain.

The critical distinction is between a screen that prepares an action and evidence that records it. Verification, available balance, limits, send activation, and service status can stop the process before funds move.

From Prerequisite State to a Verifiable Record

The transaction path starts with a usable account, an eligible funding source or crypto balance, and access to the chosen action. Buying also requires an available payment route. An external send requires an active send permission, a supported asset and network, and complete destination instructions. These conditions belong before the confirmation screen because they determine whether the intended transaction can proceed.

A disabled action, pending verification request, unavailable network, or insufficient balance describes an unmet prerequisite rather than a failed transaction. Resolve the displayed condition before rebuilding the action. Repeatedly confirming an uncertain purchase or send can create a duplicate once the original state becomes clear.

The Relationship Between Funds, Quotes, and Destinations

A buy begins with an eligible payment source or funded local-currency wallet. The quote converts a selected spending amount into a stated crypto amount and includes the transaction cost. Accepting that quote changes the balances recorded inside the account. The useful completion evidence is therefore the purchase entry and updated wallet balance, not an external blockchain status.

An external send begins with crypto already available in the selected wallet. The destination address, transfer network, and any required memo or tag define the route, while the amount and fee define the transfer value and cost. Those inputs work as a set. A correct address does not repair a network mismatch, while a matching network does not replace recipient information required by the destination platform.

Buy Confirmation at the Quote Boundary

An instant-buy quote is temporary because its market inputs can change. It displays the exchange rate, transaction cost, and crypto amount offered for the selected payment amount. Confirmation accepts the version currently shown. If the quote expires or refreshes, compare the replacement figures before proceeding. The resulting wallet balance and transaction entry are the records that show whether the purchase completed.

Send Confirmation at the Network Boundary

An external send reaches its commitment boundary when the review screen presents the amount and fee for confirmation. Before that point, compare the selected network with the receiving platform's deposit instructions. Check the full address after pasting or scanning it, and supply a destination memo or tag whenever those instructions require one.

Travel Rule questions may appear when they apply to the account's country and the particular transfer. They request information about the receiver or destination, but they do not validate the blockchain route. Network compatibility and recipient details still need their own review.

A completed cryptocurrency send cannot be cancelled through Luno after it has been sent. Correction normally depends on the recipient returning the funds, which makes the pre-confirmation review the last reliable control.

Authorisation Before Any External Transfer

Send authorisation is separate from the transaction itself. Crypto sends are disabled by default, and enabling them requires approval followed by a security waiting period. The activation time shown in the account is the relevant value because timing can differ by country. Enabling the feature does not select an asset, enter an address, or move a balance.

A high-risk account action may trigger an authorisation request by push notification on a trusted device or by email. Some accounts also require a passkey or two-factor authentication for send activity. Deny any request that does not match an action you initiated. An unsolicited instruction to enable sends or transfer crypto is a reason to stop and secure the account.

A Hypothetical Match and Mismatch at the Send Screen

Every transaction-specific detail in this worked example is hypothetical: the account state, asset, available network, recipient address, memo requirement, amount, displayed fee, and final status.

On the normal path, assume the account is eligible and sends are active. The network selected in Luno matches the recipient's deposit instructions, and the copied address includes every required destination detail. After the amount and fee are reviewed, the send is confirmed. A transaction entry then supplies a transaction ID, and the matching blockchain explorer eventually reports the transfer as confirmed.

For the edge case, assume the recipient supports a different network while every other hypothetical detail stays the same. The sender sees the mismatch, stops before confirmation, and returns to the network or destination choice. No transaction ID should appear because no send was committed. The matched route eventually ends with a confirmed record, while the mismatch leaves the funds unsent.

Status Evidence After Submission

Transaction status depends on the action that was submitted. An instant buy is recorded in the Luno account, so its purchase entry and updated balances provide the relevant evidence.

For an external crypto send, the wallet entry should expose a transaction ID once Luno has released the transfer to the blockchain.

A blockchain explorer can then classify that transaction as unconfirmed, confirmed, or failed. An unconfirmed state means the transaction has not yet received a network confirmation. Network congestion can extend that wait after Luno has released the transfer.

A confirmed explorer record shows that the network has recorded the transaction as confirmed. It does not mean that a receiving platform has already credited its customer's account. The platform may wait for more confirmations or complete an internal allocation before crediting the customer.

A balance movement without the expected record, or a record whose details differ from the intended action, needs reconciliation before another transaction is attempted. The amount, time, destination, status, and transaction ID distinguish one submission from another.

A Symptom-Led Path for Missing Funds

A missing recipient credit should first be separated from a missing transaction record. If Luno shows no completed entry or balance change, inspect the displayed error, pending action, account restriction, and service status. Do not assume that a confirmation gesture created a transaction.

A send entry without a usable transaction ID has not yet provided independent blockchain evidence. Review its displayed status and any account notification. If the state remains unclear, preserve the record details for support instead of creating a second send with the same inputs.

An available transaction ID moves the check to the matching blockchain explorer. An unconfirmed result points to network processing, while a failed result means the original attempt should be reconciled against the wallet balance before retrying. Repeating the send does not accelerate the first transaction.

A confirmed result with no recipient credit shifts the investigation to the receiving side. Compare the address, selected network, and required memo or tag with the recipient's deposit instructions. The receiving platform may also require additional confirmations before crediting the account. Give its support team the transaction ID when the blockchain record is correct but the balance remains absent.

Stopping Before Confirmation When Details Differ

The safest stopping point is before confirmation whenever the quote, destination, network, fee, or required recipient detail differs from the intended transaction. A refreshed buy quote can be accepted or declined without creating a purchase. A send mismatch calls for corrected destination instructions, not a trial confirmation. Once a transfer is confirmed on-chain, any remedy usually depends on the recipient, so an additional send can increase the loss rather than repair it.

Useful questions about Luno

Why Can the Crypto Amount in a Luno Quote Change Before Purchase?

The quoted crypto amount can change because the exchange rate and transaction cost respond to market conditions. An instant-buy quote is valid only for its displayed window. If it refreshes or expires, the replacement may offer a different output for the same payment amount. Review the new rate, cost, and receiving amount before confirming rather than relying on the earlier figures.

Does Enabling Luno Crypto Sends Transfer Any Funds?

No. Enabling sends changes an account permission and starts the applicable security waiting period. It does not choose an asset, create a recipient, or move crypto. After activation, a separate send flow still requires the destination address, supported network, amount, any required recipient information, and final confirmation.

How Should a QR Code Be Checked Before Confirming a Luno Send?

Treat the QR code as a way to enter destination data, not as proof that the whole route is correct. Compare the populated address with the recipient's instructions, confirm that both sides use the same transfer network, and add any required memo or tag. The final review should still show the intended amount and fee before confirmation.

When Will Travel Rule Questions Appear During a Luno Transaction?

Travel Rule questions can appear when the rules apply to the account's country and the particular crypto transfer. They may request information about the recipient or destination before the send continues. Completing those fields does not confirm that the wallet address, network, or memo is correct, so those transaction inputs still require a separate review.

Which Transaction Details Are Visible on a Blockchain Explorer?

A blockchain explorer can display public on-chain details such as the transaction ID, sending and receiving addresses, transferred amount, time, and confirmation status. It does not expose a person's Luno password, authentication method, or private account profile. Wallet addresses and their activity remain publicly searchable, so a transaction ID should be shared only when it serves a clear verification or support purpose.
